My name is Yokheved, I'm 23 and I live in Canada. I was born to a Jewish mother ז"ל and a Muslim father. My parents met in Germany while they were studying to become engineers, fell in love and got married. They later moved to Canada and had me. But they say all "good" things come to an end and my parents' "happy marriage" was no exception. Soon after their divorce, my father had full custody of me and I was destined to be a Muslim.
My father then got married and I lived with his wife and children. I was raised according to Islamic, Shi'a values. I wore the Hijab, prayed 5 times a day and I fasted. I was your typical Muslimah...well up until 2004, when my mother got in touch with me through an old family friend. At first, I was angry, upset, brainwashed and I sure as hell did not want anything to do with her.But one thing lead to another and I became increasingly interested in Judaism (I wish I could write more but there's a limit of characters). By 2008, I was ready to tell my father that I wanted to live my life as a Jew.He cried. We both cried. And that's why I'm busy taping and gluing my life together
